On Friday 25 September 2026, NUSAMSBE took a new step in promoting nutrition in universities by holding, at East Africa Star University (EASU), the first training certificate ceremony for the 33 members of the CUN_EASU University Nutrition Club. The ceremony is part of the University Nutrition Clubs Creation Programme (PROCUN), under Axis 6 of the Master Document: mobilising youth and the university community against malnutrition and food insecurity.

Objectives

  • Award a training certificate to members who completed Module I: Introduction to Nutrition;
  • Recognise students' commitment and encourage them to continue their training;
  • Strengthen the partnership between NUSAMSBE and East Africa Star University;
  • Lay the groundwork for extending PROCUN to other higher education institutions.

How it went

The training. For one month, club members followed Module I: Introduction to Nutrition, covering the fundamentals of nutrition and its importance for the health and well-being of individuals and communities. The training was designed, prepared, delivered and monitored by the NUSAMSBE team, in particular its trainers.

The ceremony. PROCUN training certificates, bearing each graduate's photo, were presented individually to each certified member to the applause of the other participants. Members then posed with their certificates in front of the building, together with the NUSAMSBE representative.

Results and outlook

33 students certified after Module I, the first implementation of PROCUN at EASU. NUSAMSBE intends to gradually extend this momentum to other higher education institutions in Burundi.
